Core Programming

1:1 Individual Supervision

You’ll review your client cases with one of our eight supervisors (you pick!) to get support and recommendation. With eight supervisors, you’ll be able to choose someone experienced in the diseases/conditions you see in practice.

Condition-Specific Group Supervision

We meet monthly to discuss a specific client case. Conditions discussed are: Mental health, eating behavior, eating disorders, sex hormones, GI (2 months), Sleep, Pain/Inflammation, HPA Axis, Cardiometabolic, Thyroid, and Pregnancy

Small Group Clinical Rounds

You’ll meet with a supervisor and a small group of your peers to go over cases. Even though we also have formal test prep (see the Skill Development Programming below), everyone says that these sessions also help them prepare

Individual Onboarding

You’ll meet 1:1 with a supervisor to complete the paperwork required by BCNS, and then have subsequent meetings where you make a written plan for your Supervised Practice Experience and then continue to meet as you start to implement

Skill Development Programming

Quarterly Community Social

We know that walking this path can feel isolating. Join us for a monthly community social where you’ll get to hang out virtually with your peers and create a new community of support.

Live Shadowing Opportunities

We know it’s important for you to watch experienced nutritionists work so you can develop your own clinical signature. We welcome you to our client sessions regularly, and provide an opportunity to discuss and ask questions afterwards.

Behavior Change Rounds

If you’ve ever struggled to get a client to actually do the work needed to improve their health, be sure to add Behavior Change Rounds to your calendar. Led by a supervisor that is also a national board-certified health coach, this ongoing program will transform your work.

Functional Lab Assessment Rounds

Led by a CNS Supervisor, this gathering is focused on lab interpretation of both functional and conventional test interpretation. You’ll review a specific lab test chosen by the supervisor, and then have time to review your client cases.

Grand Rounds

Want to get supervisor and peer support on a challenging client case? Bring the case to Grand Rounds, where a supervisor will guide the group through understanding the case, and making recommendations. When time permits, we also develop condition-specific protocols live.

Practice Incubator Live + Practice Incubator

If you want to launch your own private practice, there’s no better place to start than with our twice monthly live business launch workshops. You’ll also get Practice Incubator, an online library of business launch tools, notes and forms.

CNS® Test Preparation

Studying for the CNS® exam by yourself is zero fun. That’s why we do all our test prep live (it is recorded if you can’t make it), so you can ask questions and process in real time.

And yes, test prep with us does feature a live, proctored sample test!

Live Tracker Support

Figuring out how to track your Supervised Practice Experience hours can be tricky. We offer comprehensive training upon enrollment, but then also host a regular tracker support session to get your questions answered.

BONUS:

We also include a fully customizable client lead magnet and email nurture campaign as well as all the client forms and notes and a client onboarding packet to get started!

Getting Hours

To get your CNS, you’ll need to accrue 1,000 hours. We can help you get hours in the following ways:

Observational Hours

We have the full 250 allowed observational hours ready for you, with live and recorded shadowing and carefully designed case studies.

Project Heal

Work 1:1 or do meal support for individuals that cannot afford nutrition support. Don’t worry, you’ll get all the training you need!

Colette Louise Tisdahl Foundation

Work 1:1 with parents of kids who are in the NICU. Provide the nutrition parents need, and be a listening ear.

Standardized Clients

Work 1:1 with individuals with PCOS, sleep, IBS-D, dyslipidemia, prediabetes, and more! This is an add-on option, with a six-session package for $400.

Investment

Most program participants complete their hours within the 12-month Signature Supervision program. If you don’t complete your hours by the end of Signature Supervision, don’t worry! We have other supervision programs that allow you to complete your hours.

Education Modules

What Nutrition Specialties Interest You?

Each month, we explore an education module jam-packed with videos, worksheets, handouts, and more. Our goal? To get you familiar with many different nutrition specialties, regardless of whether you want to practice within a particular niche, or want to be a generalist.

  • It really doesn’t matter what your specialty is, you’ll always have clients with co-occurring anxiety, depression, ADHD, and trauma. That’s why we start the first module with a deep dive into nutrition for mental health through teaching the FIGS Protocol for Mental Health. Trust us, you’ll need it!

  • You know what people “should” eat, but do you know how to positively impact their behavior around food? Do you know how to help clients cultivate a positive, healing relationship with food? Learn the fundamental skills all nutritionists should know.

  • Regardless of your niche, you will come across clients with eating disorders (recent statistics cite 1 in 10 Americans deal with an eating disorder). So it’s important for all nutritionists to know how to identify an eating disorder, how to refer out (when needed), and how to support clients who have difficult relationships with food.

  • Research suggests anywhere from 75 - 95% of doctor’s visits are caused by stress. One of the simplest ways to increase health is to support your clients to engage a healthy stress response by becoming aware of, and supporting, stress hormone physiology.

  • In this foundational gut module, we discuss all things motility. Your clients have Bristol Stool Chart numbers that aren’t supportive? We got you. Learn the SWIFT Protocol for Gut Healing© to support your clients in achieving optimum gut health.

  • In your career, you’ll see many clients with cardiometabolic conditions. Learning how to help someone with their cardiometabolic conditions is non-negotiable. Creatively, we also give you tools on how to work with a client to use a continuous glucose monitor.

  • Thyroid symptoms are commonly under recognized and dismissed by conventional medicine, thyroid issues can significantly impact wellness. This module focuses on the nutrition supports you can provide to encourage the thyroid to perform optimally.

  • If your interest is women’s health, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll do a deep-dive into supporting pregnancy and lactation through nutrition and herbs.

  • If women’s health is your thing, you’ll love our module exploring reproductive hormones. You’ll learn how to support problem periods and hormone imbalance through hormone lab interpretation

  • You can’t get through all of gastrointestinal nutrition in just one module! That’s why we include the second module, focusing on autoimmune GI conditions, SIBO, and more.

  • Sleeping problems impact our clients massively. Yet there are so many factors that impact a client’s sleep. With so many possible influencing factors, learn how to target the most important.

  • If you’ve ever experienced pain or chronic inflammation, you’ll know how devastating it can be. We’ll teach you to use nutrition, lifestyle interventions and mind-body medicine to support pain relief, lessen inflammation, and get your clients back to living their best lives.

  • The time it takes to accrue your 1,000 hours varies greatly. Talk with one of our CNS supervisors in an info session to learn more.

  • We have program participants with many different needs. Some currently are working in another provider’s office, some are intending to launch their own private practice.

    It is our goal to support you in whatever path you take. If you’re working in another provider’s office, you’ll get clients there.

    If you want to launch your own private practice, we will support and coach you so you can acquire clients that way.

    We also have relationships with Project Heal, a national non-profit organization that you can provide services and meal support for in order to accrue hours, and the Colette Louise Tisdahl Foundation. which provides support for those in the NICU.

  • A number of things, actually!

    We really care (REALLY). This is one of the most frequent pieces of feedback we get from program participants, and it is very true. We really want you to find your own path, and figure out what makes you unique!

    We believe that the best way for you to learn is to engage with multiple supervisors with different specialties. That’s why we’ve invested so heavily in having a large supervision team (nine currently) that have different types of experience and clinical specialty.

    Even with the broad range of supervisor specialties, we share one approach - a trauma-informed, personalized functional medicine approach to nutrition care that supports clients in achieving their optimum health.

  • Signature Supervision has rolling admission - you can start at any time!

  • Different people have different needs. At a minimum, you’re expected to attend two clinical rounds/month + 1 individual supervision session.

    The following activities are highly encouraged but not required: Shadowing, Case Consultation Group, Test Preparation, Workshops and Community Social.

  • Yes! We have many people participate in Signature Supervision that have full-time jobs in other fields. If fulfilling your 1,000 hours takes longer than twelve months, rest assured we have other supervision programs you can join to complete your hours.

  • Yes! All of our supervisors are pre-approved by the BCNS board, so you don’t have to go through the process of getting us approved, you can just start.

  • Upon acceptance, we’ll send you a link to use Affirm. You can select to divide the Signature Supervision into interest-free 6-, 12-, or 24-month payments.

  • Emily Cerda

    MS CNS LDN NBC-HWC

    Emily is currently on an extended leave of absence.

    Emily Cerda is a clinical nutritionist specializing in pediatric allergy, anxiety, and attention. In her private practice, Beyond Behavior Nutrition, she works with children, adolescents, and their parents to explore the influence of food on mood and behavior while building lifelong skills for a future of resilience and health. Emily also works as a Teaching Assistant in the Nutrition & Herbal Studies department at Maryland University of Integrative Health and as a Nutrition Consultant with Solid Starts, an online resource for baby-led weaning. When she is not working or homeschooling her kids, she enjoys gardening, long hikes with her beagle, and painting rocks to hide in her community.

  • Ashley Comparin

    MS CNS LDN NBC-HWC

    Ashley graduated with a MS in Nutrition from American University and is currently working as a clinical nutritionist at Nutrition Hive as well as her work helping supervisees at Clinician’s Incubator understand the nuts and bolts of the Supervised Practice Experience to become a CNS. Ashley specializes in gut health, intuitive eating, and sports nutrition and enjoys photography, cooking, and hiking in her free time.
